Marlena grew up in a Baptist church in Virginia, absorbing the sounds of traditional spirituals and Gospel music. She has lived in Colorado for the past 12 years, completing both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance. Outside of church, she teaches private piano and voice lessons. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with a good book, preferably of the science fiction & fantasy genre.

Music Factoid

Music has always been a very integral part of worship at Sixth Avenue. Our organ is a two-manual, 10-rank Reuter Pipe Organ. It is the 342nd organ built by the Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence Kansas; it was installed in our church in 1929. There are only four older Reuter Pipe Organs in Colorado. The piano in our sanctuary is a 6 1/2-foot Baldwin Grand Piano.

Sixth Avenue United Church has been home to many musical performances over the years, and is used by several private and college music teachers for student recitals and master classes. The acoustics in the sanctuary are second to none in the Denver area for individual and small ensemble performances.
